Your presence as a volunteer will help to protect some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and coral reef systems. By adopting a holistic conservation approach we are educating the community on local environmental issues and dealing with the social and economic pressures that are leading to the destruction of reefs, and fish, coral and turtle populations. We also aim to encourage an end to unsustainable food systems and development.
Overview of the tasks and time commitment needed from the participant.
Work done depends on the seasons/weather but could consist of conducting biodiversity and butterfly surveys for our partners in Thai Mueang NP & on Kho Koh Khao Island, conducting species identification, assisting staff at a turtle centre, leading environmental education classes at local schools, English lessons with research and National Park staff, beach clean ups etc.
Health and safety (site specific health and safety information).
A change of environment, climate, food and lifestyle often results in minor, and occasionally more serious, illness. Please inform staff if you feel unwell at any time. The nearest emergency medical facilities are located in Phuket and Takuapa. At the base camp and work locations we adhere to a strict code of health and safety. All staff are first aid certified and anyone staying on base receives a health and safety briefing upon arrival.
