Work with an association of schools and community empowerment and health projects whose mission is to educate, develop and encourage hospitality and solidarity between people. The association wants to create a community where humans can come together and overcome prejudices, racism, discrimination and live in peace with each other. They believe that every country, every culture and every person deserves honor and respect, especially in societies that are being impacted by inequality, racism and social prejudice.

To meet these aspirations, the community service association fights for democracy while battling against discrimination, exclusion and social prejudice. One important contribution to the purpose has been the construction of Community Schools which offer education and personal formation to children between 2 and 9 years. All schools are committed to a comprehensive human rights program, relating particularly to immigrants and migrant worker families.

The volunteer will be working in the community school in either Santiago or in Saint Cristobal, a small city outside of Santo Domingo. He/She will assist the teachers in the areas of language and crafts and provide basic care for the schoolchildren. The program is open for new ideas and suggestions by the international volunteers. In their daily work the participants will be guided and supported by the staff. He/She will take part in an arrival orientation, a mid stay orientation and an end of stay camp. In these camps important subjects will be discussed, such as the relations with the host family, project, and community.
