By\u00a0exploring a wide range of relevant topics\u2014from the ways that technology affects cultural\u00a0adaptation processes to the interplay between personality and culture\u2014 these research\u00a0initiatives help identify a variety of factors involved in intercultural learning. This document provides an overview of our research efforts.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"arrow-right outline button\" href=\"http:\/\/d22dvihj4pfop3.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/10\/03174207\/Overview-of-AFS-Research-for-AFS-Friends-2016.pdf\">Download<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>AFS Long Term Impact Study<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In 2006, AFS conducted a large-scale research to determine the long-term impact of an intercultural learning experience. The study compared AFS alumni to their peers, 20 to 25 years after their participation in an exchange program. The study found that AFS participants showed significant advantages in language fluency and cultural competence that lasted far beyond the duration of the experience abroad.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"arrow-right button outline\" href=\"http:\/\/d22dvihj4pfop3.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/10\/03174400\/AFS-Long-Term-Impact-Study-2006.pdf\">Download<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Assessment of the Impact of the AFS Study Abroad Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Assessment of the Impact of the AFS Study Abroad Experience<\/em> was an independent research study conducted in 2005 by Dr. Mitchell R. Hammer in partnership with AFS. Thousands of students around the world were evaluated before, during and after an experience abroad. Compared to a control group of their peers, AFS exchange students\u00a0made significant improvements in language fluency, their knowledge of other cultures and their ability to forge intercultural friendships.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"arrow-right button outline\" href=\"http:\/\/d22dvihj4pfop3.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/10\/03174421\/The-Assessment-of-the-Impact-of-the-AFS-Study-Abroad-Experience-2005.pdf\">Download<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview of AFS Research for AFS &amp;
